Share Your Chilling Personal Finance Stories for a Chance to Win $400 in Prizes with #MyKindaScary
By: Gary Parkinson on October 15, 2014With Halloween fast approaching, things are starting to get spooky as Canadians prepare for the ghosts and ghouls to come out on October 31.
But for many of us, balancing the family chequebook and staying on top of the household finances are what really induce the spine-tingling chills. That’s why we’re launching our #MyKindaScary Halloween contest, where Canadians can win $400 in prizes just by telling us about a scary personal finance experience they’ve had with a mortgage, credit card or insurance product!
We’ve all had a scary personal finance experience or two – maybe it’s a mortgage penalty we had to pay, maybe it’s a ridiculous fee our credit card company charged us or a time when we should have purchased insurance but didn’t.
One thing’s for sure – the scary stories we tell usually have a lot more to do with money than ghosts or haunted houses!
With the #MyKindaScary contest you can learn from other people’s personal finance experiences and share your own – plus you can win $400 in prizes!
Entering the contest is easy: between now and October 21, register and submit a short story describing a very scary experience involving a mortgage, insurance policy, credit card or any other personal finance product. The team at LowestRates.ca will then pick the top ten stories from all the submissions, and post them here on the LowestRates blog.
Once the stories are on the blog, it’s up to you to enhance your odds of winning the contest. You can post the link to your story on Facebook, and request all your friends ‘like’ the post to increase your total votes. You may also share your story on Twitter or Google+, and encourage all your followers to ‘share’ the story with as many people as they can reach.
The person who receives the most combined Facebook ‘likes’ and Twitter/Google+ shares wins a FREE Personal Finance Consultation Session (worth $300!) from Shannon Lee Simmons, Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Chartered Investment Manager (CIM), media personality and founder of the New School of Finance™. Shannon can help you create a financial plan for the future, and help you reduce the odds of ever ending up in another scary financial situation again.
You will also receive a $100 gift card from Petro-Canada as part of your prize. All ten finalists will be given a complimentary copy of Fight Back: 81 Ways to Help You Save Money and Protect Yourself From Corporate Trickery, written by Toronto Star columnist and personal finance expert Ellen Roseman.
To participate in the #MyKindaScary contest, be sure to get your story submitted by 11:59 p.m. EST on October 21, or your terrifying tale will be left untold!
