Easy Mother’s Day Gifts for Under $25

Etsy Necklace

If you haven’t heard of Etsy yet, you’re missing out! Nearly any type of jewelry you can imagine can be found on this site that features the work of artisans from around the world. Filter by price, search for something that suits your mother’s fancy and order away.

Foodie Gift Bag

Did you know that putting together a foodie gift basket is one of the easiest gifts you can make? You can even do so while buying your regular groceries! Plus, your budget can be as high or as low as you would like. Find some gourmet sausage, pate, cheese, truffle oil, high quality olive oil, flavoured balsamic vinegar, delicious crackers, champagne vinegar, or whatever else your mom would appreciate. Put it together in a gift bag (also available at the grocery store!) and you’ve got a delicious, on-the-run gift that will fit any budget.

OPI Nail Polish

OPI is the gold standard in nail polish and can be found at many salons, spas and nicer pharmacies. They make literally hundreds of colours and cost around $20 after taxes. Find a colour that your mom would appreciate, consider adding in a glass nail file, and tie a nice silk bow on it. Voila!

Sparkling Wine

This is one of my go-to gifts, mostly because I am a fan of all things bubbly and it always adds a sense of celebration. There are great cava choices (from Spain) and prosecco choices (from Italy) in the $15-20 range throughout Canada. My go-tos are the gold-labeled Segura Viudas and the black label Freixenet.

Travel Book

“Oh the places you’ll go!” If your mother has a penchant for travel, pick up a book to fuel her wanderlust. A current favourite is the 36 Hours series published by The New York Times, containing weekend trip ideas. There are books for various parts of Canada and the United States, plus Europe.

Brunch Gift Certificate

$25 is the perfect amount to pick up brunch at many local restaurants. Find one with a great vibe and treat your mother. If you’re lucky, you might even be able to go with her.

Museum Admission

Does your mom enjoy history, animals or art? Get a gift certificate for a museum or gallery admission. To give you an idea of prices, the Vancouver Art Gallery is currently $20 per adult, the ROM is $16, the Manitoba Museum is $25 and the Glenbow Museum is $15.

Framed Photo

As we age, the number of family photographs we take tends to diminish as well. Gone are the days of annual school photos of all of mom’s kids! Find a nice frame and give your mom a new family photo for her collection, featuring you and other members of your family.

Scarf

Scarves are an easy and fun way to add flair and colour to outfits, and again they come in a huge variety of styles and price points. Pick out one to suit your mother’s style and she can add it to her wardrobe for years to come.

Pottery Bowl or Platter

Pottery comes in a multitude of colours, shapes and sizes (and prices!). Find something that will match your Mom’s tastes and décor, and you can also support a local artisan as you do.

Potted Plant

Potted plants, terrariums and orchids all make for long lasting (as long as there are no black thumbs around!) gift ideas. They come in a wonderful variety of pots, colours, price points and gardening skill levels. You can source one from a florist, a grocery store, or a greenhouse. Just don’t kill it before you give it to your mom! (I am at risk of doing that.) Plants are a wonderful, inexpensive gift for mom.

Cake or Cupcakes from a Local Bakery

Pinterest is full of absolutely adorable cakes and cupcakes, which are often way too difficult for most of us mortals to replicate! Stop in to a local bakery and find some picture-perfect bundles of sugar there. The choice of flavours and colours is endless, and if you get enough, you can probably convince your mom to share!

Macarons

Macarons are so bright and full of colour that they make an excellent gift. Plus, they come with a rather hefty price tag. The light yet chewy flavour makes it worth it. You may have to do some scouting in order to find a location that sells macarons in your city.
