It’s that time of year again, time to spoil mom with some of these DIY gift ideas on her special day:

1.Give mom an original centrepiece for all her spring flowers. Using only a couple pine boards, some soda bottles, and a few tools, you can make mom something that she’ll treasure both because it’s beautiful and unique. If you’re a little bit crafty and have a drill and a nail gun, this might be the project for you.

2. Family is important and mom knows that best. Give her a memorable gift this year with a family tree serving tray. If you go to any second hand store, you can pick up a serving tray at a reasonable price. It doesn’t really matter what it looks like because you’re going to mod podge that into a family tree. This one will take more time but it will be an heirloom your mom will be sure to treasure.

3. If a picture is worth a thousand words, mom will love this home-made picture frame with an inspiration quote from Shanty2Chic.com. Search it up under Mother’s Day Gift & Free Printable and get ready for a quick trip to the hardware store. You’ll need a few tools but this project will be sure to make her mother’s day the best one yet.

4. Make some home-made chocolates from a recipe you find online and wrap them up in a cute little box for a sweet mother’s day for mom.

5. Stack the Deck with Love with this lovely homemade gift from Ziploc. Your biggest task will be to come up with 52 reasons why you love mom. Get a deck of cards, download the template, and type all the reasons. Search up “stack up the deck with love” to get all the instructions.

6. Is mom a tea lover? Create the perfect tea set for her with some plain ceramic dishes and a porcelain fine-point marker. Write out quotes or design it in some way that will make it special for mom. Don’t like the way it turned out? No worries, you can wash it off within 72 hours and try again. Find the marker online by searching Pebeo’s Porcelaine fine-point marker.

7. If you have children, get them involved and spend some time painting planting pots for mom. Once the kids have painted their little hearts out, buy some little flowers to put in them and gift them to your own mom so she’ll always have blooming reminders of how you all feel all year long.

8. Your jewellery-loving mom will go ga-ga for these fun little button rings. Create your own with only a few supplies and some interesting buttons. Find the instructions by searching “21 Handmade Jewelry Projects” on Country Living. There is a wide array of buttons based on colour, shape or subject on Ebay or Etsy. Find one that will suit mom and adhere it to the ring blank. Voila! A one of a kind ring that mom will adore.

9. Make mom a homemade photo album using scrapbooking supplies. Base it around a theme like your favourite moments together, a family vacation, or a memory that she loves. Use quotes from her favourite poem or book to make it more meaningful and she’ll love the thought and the album.

10. Gift baskets are a great way to spoil mom on her special day and there are an endless number of ways to put one together on the cheap. Whether you go with a theme because mom’s a gardener or you just want her to have some of her favourite things (wine and chocolate anyone?), it’s possible to do this on a budget.
